"In war the dead pay the debts for the living."
The quote above comes from the novel called My Brother Sam Is Dead. The novel is about a young boy named Sam Meeker. His family lives in Redding, a small colonial village. It takes place during the war, his brother is a rebel while the rest of his family are loyalists. At least, in the beginning. This novel takes you on an adventure about betrayel and duty to one's nation. This novel really goes deep and shows that family really was split apart at the time. To me this book also shows how both sides really go above and beyond to show their power, with some immoral choices while at it.
The book itself really influenced me to make this website to show the military and some of their important parts. The novel itself doesn't go extremely in depth about the military, but they still have a key part in the book. To me, I wanted to make a site to really help people know about the military in case one doesn't understand exactly what they looked like or acted in the novel. It finds an extremely important part of their lives and zooms in on it. To me, I looked at it to answer military questions such as "Were did the bayonet come from" or "Why did they jsut stand and shoot in a line." The novel in all other respects was very accurate, and a great work of literature.
I found this novel a great read and wish for all of you to read it as it is one of the main influences behind my site. It also gives an amazing narrative about how the soldiers acted in the war without all the bias of the history books. I hope that if you do read this novel that you enjoy it as much as I did.
